Part 2: My book marketing experiment by spending $5 on @Fiverr #Update #TechThursday

My initial article My book marketing experiment by spending $10 on @Fiverr.com was well received but I decided on an update.

fiverr1What is Fiverr?

My definition is that Fiverr.com is a site you can get any service LEGAL for five dollars.

If you never thought of making money on the Internet, then you’re sadly missing out on the most perfect extra income in the world. Or at least gas money (for a week). LOL

Don’t have a million dollar budget? Don’t even have a hundred dollar budget to market your books?

Fiverr has great book marketing campaigns authors should try.

All results vary.

Click here to search for a book marketing fiverr.

This time I used Seller: fourz_media. Like I’ve said before I do like the US sellers more. I’ve had misspelled words with foreign sellers.

I also look for good reviews and if I can find the author who made the review I check their social and standing on Amazon if it was a recent review.

I decided on Seller: fourz_media for those reasons.

I paid for my campaign, submitted the information requested and then waited the two days they said it would take the finish the job.

I saw a small spike in traffic on my blog and my rank on twitter increased. Since I’m steadily selling books, I don’t know if there was a huge jump in sells but I could see that my prime book reads spiked abnormally.

This was satisfying and for $5, you really can’t beat it.

Here is a link to my other great resources on Fiverr.

#TechThursday: Doing an @Amazon #Giveaway to increase book sales, followings and rank.

For February I did an Amazon Giveaway.

Unlike a book giveaway, I decided to help my readers get to me and giveaway a Kindle Fire

Now you’d think this was expensive, but usually, authors are giving away $25 to $50 dollars give cards. Well, Amazon was selling the Kindle Fire for $39.99.

I figured this wasn’t a bad thing to be a part of and I might do it again, just get more people to follow me and increase my rank on Amazon

So if you don’t know what an Amazon giveaway is. Here’s the short end of the stick…

amazongiveawayexplaination

You can usually find if an item is available for a giveaway by scrolling all the way down on the item’s Amazon.com page and it will let you know.

I love it because Amazon takes care of all the work. You just choose the item, pay for it and then let them know how long you want the giveaway.

You can opt to have them:

  1. Follow you on Amazon (this increases your rank).
  2. Follow you on Twitter
  3. Tweet out a message
  4. Watch a video on Amazon
  5. Watch a youtube video

I choose number 3. Why? Well, I decided this time I wanted to work on an organic following on Twitter and increase my followers without just yelling follow me.

I set up the summary so when people tweeted it said this:

amazongiveaway021517

When I started this campaign, I was at about 11.3K followers. At the end of this campaign, I’m nearing 11.5K. I know that’s not a lot to you, but since it was organic, it means a lot to me.

I liked how my tweets looked like the Oprah of Kindle Fire’s. “You get a Kindle Fire!” LOL

For books, I would suggest three days, but for large ticket items like an Amazon Kindle Fire, I would go back with the 5 to 7 days.

As a plus, Amazon even lets you do this again exactly as you had it with a copy this giveaway function. Here are my results.

amazon2giveaway021517

They took out an extra $15 for shipping, but then refunded me $9 after the winner claimed the prize.

And I loved the increase in Twitter followers.

Plus, people clicked into my website from Twitter a lot from this campaign. And I saw an increase in book sales during this time. Now I was running another free book campaign during this stage, but I believe this helped more readers know who I am.

I’ll be doing this again maybe in September or when that price drops again on that Kindle.

Keeping Track of Book Sales. Make Your Own #booksellingtechniques #bookpromo

books - clipartKnowing what you sold, who’s following you, what campaigned worked and what didn’t is a lot of hard work.

Yet, selling a product on the internet is a lot of hard work, but in order to be successful, you need to know what’s effective and what is not. Authors are horrible at loving analytics, but it’s very necessary to keep track at least once a week to see what you can do to better sell books.

A lot of people ask me with all that I do, how do I continue to make sure that I’m staying on track, what worked, what didn’t work and so forth.

I use to hand write my book tracking sheet down. I made a little booklet and would keep a daily journal of what happened on my sites, in my social networks and also my main bookselling pages.

I digitize everything after my fire and I’ll show you a new sheet so you can make your own.

Items Needed:

Excel or any spreadsheet program.

BookSheetExample

So let’s explain this.

The top columns contain what I want to track. I used word wrap in the format cell section to make it doubled lined (as you can see in Kindle Select & Books Sold option.

Now you ask why did I separate Kindle Select from the Amazon section. Because in Kindle Select, it counts by pages, not by books sold. I need to keep track of both to know how much the reader is reading. In the Amazon tab, I added a comment because I add Free books and paid books together as one, but I do want to know how many were free that day and how many were actually sold.

If you jump over to the Book Sold column, I did an add column that actually will add the Amazon and Smashwords Column on a daily basis and at the end of the month, it’ll do a total of all books sold. (free and paid.)

Now I could’ve broken down Smashwords as well, but decided not to because their reporting is a little more complicated and I just wanted to know how many books are being pulled through the distributor. I might later break it down by which entity pulled through (from BN, Apple, Kobo and Smashwords), but for now, I just want to know the base number.

I do want to keep track of each site I personally manage sign ups. I also need to know what works in my emails and what doesn’t and the growth rate from my social media to my blogs.

I can also make comments on days in the date column I did any fiverr campaigns, live videos or was a featured author on a website so I can understand what worked and if I need to do so again.

I decided not to add FB on this because it’s very large. It needs it’s own spreadsheet which I might start to add to another sheet. I have a FB profile, 2 pages and a group which I monitor, so I think I need to keep it separate.

I also don’t need to update this every day. Most times I’ll do my update once a week unless I know I’ve had a great social engagement day. (Like days I do periscope and also youtube release days.) Video always gives me great engagement.

You can easily make your own and copy this example.
