In my new series going into October, I want to discuss unpopular opinions I’ve had about my literary life.

I’ve made them into 3rd person, because I felt perhaps this is a lot of general opinions other than just mine. I like to say the things other people are afraid to speak about but these are opinions I’ve had.

Every author coach, every writing podcast, every productivity guru says the same thing — write every day, no exceptions. Sylvia’s reality: she’s a single mother of three who built a 65-book catalog, founded a literary network, and runs her own publishing operation. Some days writing didn’t happen. Some weeks didn’t happen. And the books still got written. Consistency over calendar. Output over optics. The “write every day” rule was built by people who don’t have her life.
