Let me know your feedback on the story.
I’m hoping I can pull off what I’m planning.
This is another short and sweet chapter. Remember, I’m trying to reduce my word count per chapter and eliminate all the wordiness. Pray for me.

Once she got off the phone, she wrote a small proposal based on the information she had been given from El, combined with Aunt Rose’s information. With the earlier report she had given El, she was able to form a conclusion that could give him a significant edge in the meeting, but she needed to know if they would have enough time before the meeting to go into detail.
Iris remembered El telling her that when they spoke about what had been happening since he’d been in town, he had written down at the hotel’s desk where his laptop was and possible properties Councilman Washington would offer. Using her laptop, she investigated the properties’ acquiring process, whether they could even be provided to the Bellinis, and how the councilman had gotten his hands on these properties.
She would have to hope El could see her proposal and understand what to do if he didn’t want her there.
After Iris arose from the couch, Iris immediately felt the after-effects of her lovemaking with El. Soreness in her back through to her thighs hit her, and she realized she was still on a high from the passionate lovemaking before she had gotten comfortable on the couch.
Iris blushed, realizing she had taken ALL of El’s thickness more than once in a night, and damn, every time he pressed deep into her, it felt better and better. The man had touched places no one had, combined with his passion and gentleness, escalated her pleasure tenfold. Even now, just thinking about him, she craved him again.
After cleaning herself in a long hot shower, Iris prepared to speak with him as she entered the bedroom. He’d been rustling around in the bedroom for over an hour, and it was almost time for him to leave for the meeting.
El was just coming out of the private bathroom, half-dressed in a navy blue suit pants and a tank top, holding his tie, shirt, and jacket. His broad chest was still a little damp, and damn if he didn’t look delicious all over again. His eyes swept over her initially in concern and appreciation but then in disappointment.
Just as she was about to speak, he said, “The packages haven’t arrived.”
“What packages?” she questioned.
Someone knocked at the hotel room door, and El left her presence to address who had come. Iris cursed herself for not being able to speak to him right away about going with him, but it had been partially his fault for looking so damn good.
“El, I want to go with you to your meeting.” She spoke loud enough for him to hear her from the other room.
He entered the bedroom shortly, holding several boxes and a bag swinging off his arm. “I know that. You need to be there,” he said, placing everything on the bed. I’ve ordered more clothes to be delivered while we’re gone, but this should suffice to get you through the morning with me.”
With him? He wanted her to go?
Astonished, she said tremblingly, “El, are you sure?”
“Of what? I need you by my side for this meeting, Iris,” He said as if this were obvious, like the air they breathe. “Now, get changed. Somewhere in all this-“
Iris couldn’t help herself as she rushed into his arms and hugged his body tightly.
El seemed slightly uncomfortable by her thankful hug, but his arms circled her body soon, and he held her to him. “You’re welcome, Iris.”
At the same time, Iris drew away with an apology. “I’m sorry. I was just overwhelmed. I know you’re different, and I shouldn’t compare you to what I’ve been through, but sometimesβ¦ I can’t help feeling what I feel, and no one’s ever thought so much of me, El.” Quickly, she added, “Please dont worry, I’m getting attached. I know this isβ¦ temporary.”
He straightened his shirt and pants and nodded politely. “As I was saying, there is a makeup case in there that should be within your color range and some accessories for underwear. I ordered this last night because I knew you wouldn’t have anything to wear while you were in Chicago, and some more clothes should arrive while we are gone.”
Walking to the bedroom door, he said, “We’ll be leaving in half an hour.”
Once he left her alone, she ransacked the boxes and bags with the silliest grin.
She wore a two-piece misty rose pants suit with a high waist, straight legs, and matching three-inch heels. A white silk shirt complemented the outfit, which was stylish but very professional for her. Underneath, she wore delicately laced underwear and suspender pantyhose with intricate thigh designs.
Gawd! She was grateful he hadn’t picked some horrible dress, thinking she wanted Violet’s style. She loved the pantsuit chosen. The color gave her a bright appearance, and she almost felt worthy to be his woman.
That thought made her smile, but she forced herself to push those machinations from her head.
Getting dressed took no time at all, and she only applied just enough makeup to professionally cover up the bruises and remnants from the long, sexually awakened night.
Her curls were easily tamed by a wired hair comb she could wind about her strands, use water to smooth down the style, and leave cute ringlets around her face.
Making sure she left no trace of herself in his private bathroom, she packed everything up and wiped down the entire bathroom. She paused when tossing some tissue away, seeing something red covered slightly by some other tissue in the bathroom’s trashcan.
Just as she was about to bend down to investigate, El barged in, holding a wide tooth comb.
“The concierge brought this up just now because it had dropped out of the packaging.” He looked her up and down, impressed. “But you do just fine without it.”
She took the comb from him and smiled. “Thank you.” It would be hard to hold herself back from showing her complete gratitude, but she was determined to show him she could control herself.
Holding her head high, she walked past him, but El grabbed her arm and jerked her back into his arms, kissing her like he was never going to have this opportunity again. How was she supposed to play indifference if he continuously aroused the fuck out of her?
Iris was in a daze as they gathered everything and proceeded out a back entrance to the hotel, where a private car awaited them.
“In case they were following my car, I decided we needed a more private way to leave and return to the hotel,” El explained.
She was still reeling from that damn kiss he’d discombobulated her with, so she only nodded, scooting over the back of the vehicle and watching him join her.
“I’ve never had anyone accompany me to any meeting, Iris, so if I’m clippish, please understand it’s not you.”
Iris said, “You don’t have to explain how you usually are, El. I know my place in your life – business or pleasure. I’ll stay in the background unless you look my way.”
El stiffly nodded and looked out the window as if he were trying to hide something. She could assume his upset was with the visit from King Heart. What else could there be?
“When you spoke of ‘they’ following you, were you referring to the detective?”
“Him and others. I wouldn’t be surprised if Sharlie were snooping around the city trying to see if I came here. I know the hotel will keep my information discrete, but she has a way of bullying people to get the information she wants.”
Bravely, she asked, “Why does she have a vendetta against you?”
“Why else? She hates everything Bellini and anyone associated with them. I’ve been trying to work this deal with them for some years. It took decades to get into their social circle, and now that I’m there and possibly have a chance to walk away with a buttload of money, she comes in and tries to ruin everything.”
Iris relaxed a little because she had thought Sharlie Costello would have been a past bed acquaintance.
“Did I hurt you last night?” he asked suddenly.
Blushing down to her toes, she could barely look at his intense, concerned expression. “Wh-What? Hurt me?”
“I’m worried I hurt you, Iris, and you’re not saying anything because of past situations when you weren’t allowed to voice your pain. I need you to let me know if I did.”
Could she blush any harder? “No, I’m fine.”
“Are you saying that because you think I will get upset? Or you’re trying to appease me?”
Shaking her head, Iris admitted, “I was a little sore this morning, but my long shower helped. Dwayne wasn’t that gentle with me; perhaps my sister liked it rough. Still, I can understand your size com-comparison-” She had to stop herself because the flush overwhelming her about speaking about something so intimate in a professional environment was unlike her. Wrapping her arms around her waist to keep herself together, she continued, “There’s no comparison, but I enjoyed myself last night with you, El.”
Her words seemed to immediately soothe his slight upset, and she was glad because if she blushed any harder, she would surely die from an internal blaze rising inside of her.
