I can’t just throw him in his situation without preparing his life for a HEA. He’s done some bad things, and I won’t justify it, but monsters aren’t all bad.
Yes, they are, but it’s different for the love of their lives. Only in my stories or in my world do I know this. In the real world, yes, they are bad. Plus, I want to make King’s “change” believable. No man just wakes up one day and says, “I want to change,” and then, the next day, he lives a normal life to accept the love he wants or desires.
So, in this chapter alone, I’ve accomplished years of trying to get King to the point where I need him to be. Before this, I was worried about everything, but I needed El to get things together for him.
InΒ Emperor’s Addition/Heart, you’ll recall that they came across the large building the King had been using to set up his “empire,” but it was all burned down.
And this was fine and good with him, but the other part of his plan is to get his Paradise.
The one thing he’s craved since the first time he saw her.
See Tanner’s Devil for that little detail, as well as a little bit of Wicked Chances.
With that, I can put the pieces together and start laying out his storyline, which will be an ode to the first author or romance I ever read, Ms. Johanna Lindsey.
I’m so excited.
I’m shocked this chapter was edited so well. Like the words poured out of me as if I were the old Sylvia back in the early 2000 days writer. This whole week has been a nice writing week for me. In six days, I put over 5k words on paper.
I didn’t finish the story by the end of November like I wanted to, but I’m headed in the right direction, and the story is moving fast enough. Now I need to get them out of this hotel room, over to the meeting, and back in Detroit to deal with the mess of El’s life while going after her father.
Let me know if there are any other plot holes in the story because we’re moving fast people.

The last thing El remembered was nuzzling her breasts, enjoying the taste of her as he suckled to sleep. Iris had not noticed it, but El had tasted the clear fluid start to thicken, becoming sweeter. And there was an increase in the amount. El loved being able to fill his mouth with her warm deluge as she gyrated her sex on his body. Even in her sleep, she culminated, increasing her supply and sweetening.
He wrapped his limbs around her and locked her on her side against his body. She didn’t complain and even smiled.
Damn, his heart swooned, and El knew he’d never be able to get the woman out of his system or away from her. Even her smell aroused his soul, but he worried about the way he was prone to suddenly lose sexual interest and destroy her life because he still wanted her close. She was the first person his condition had acclimated with, and he didn’t know any other way to keep her in his life.
El wasn’t going to feel an ounce of guilt knowing he’d drained himself inside of her, and before the sun arose, he was going to do so again and again.
Before succumbing to sleep, his last thought was that he’d take her all day and all night if he didn’t have to go to the Bellini meeting.
A coldness abruptly yanked him out of his sleep, and immediately, he got out of bed without disturbing Iris to put on pajama bottoms, grab his gun, and walk out of the room. The air smelled dark, faintly reminding him of Blaque, but there was a low, deceptive sweetness, which could only meanβ¦
King couldn’t be around? The maniacal older brother of Blaque’s wouldn’t come out of his hiding for just a payment. He’d send his goons or his army of women. El grabbed the amount in his brief in the front room in case someone was coming personally for the payment.
The light on in the bathroom caught El’s attention. Earlier, he had carried Iris into the bedroom from the general bathroom; the candles should have burned out and left the room in darkness. El walked in there, holding the gun down but looking around everywhere until his eyes caught sight of something red at the bottom of the tub. He remembered draining the water but not staying around to clean the tub because he needed to get back inside Iris.
At the bottom of the tub, a T-like structure with small dark strings attached lay by itself. It was no bigger than a thick toothpick. Once he picked it up, El knew precisely what it was and put it in the other pocket of his pajamas. Then he heard a cruel, chilling voice from the bedroom.
Fuck! Fuck! Fuck! King Heart! In the flesh, and by the time he arrived at the bedroom door, King had made his way to the edge of the bed, but to El’s relief, the man had not touched her.
Iris was terrified but holding herself together. El’s only mission was to get King out of the room.
El had seen horrific things in his lifetime, and he knew the brutality of this man even on a good day. The gun he aimed meant nothing to King, but the man knew El wouldn’t hesitate to shoot him.
King was drawn to Iris like a shark to blood in the water. El knew the innocence, strength, and embodiment of her soul was a heady draw to any man when they knew what they wanted, and damn if he would let King spoil any part of her.
And, of course, King’s sense of smell was just as strong as El’s – possibly even more substantial. The Hearts were known for that trait and one of the reasons Blaque had been drawn to El.
In King’s case tonight, the madman knew exactly what El was up to and most likely saw the evidence in the bathtub.
Hence, El cut him off at every turn because it was also a Heart’s trait to discover secrets and blab at every chance they get. The last thing El needed Iris to know was his intentions to keep her.
Yes, El was a naughty boy, but until he saw the evidence in the bathtub, he didn’t realize the consequences of his actions and how much she would hate him once she realized it. It was why he’d never gone deep before, but damn, her body slid over his shaft like she was made for him. He wouldn’t have been able to stop her, but that was neither here nor there.
A responsible man would have used protection, but El wanted what could become to keep what he desired the most – Iris. And he was willing to promise King anything to ensure this monster didn’t take her.
Once El had King away from Iris, he still didn’t relax nor resort to covering King’s scent. El needed his keen senses on all points if he was going to know King’s motives.
If his business were finished, King would have left. At least the man had the respect for El to remove his shoes.
El kept the gun lowered but on the ready because he knew King could get to that knife fast as lightning, and it could end up in any part of El’s body in the blink of an eye. There was still the temptation of canceling the deal they’d just made, rendering El powerless and stealing Iris from him.
Never trust King! Blaque always hissed. His promises are shit.
Most likely, this was why his cousin Lethal couldn’t stand him.
Also, the evil bastard had taught his sisters and his niece how to use a knife, and King was a damn master of impalement arts. Some believed the man was born with a knife in his hands because he’d ripped his mother open with his nails dragging down the vaginal shaft.
“You have my word; I’m not going to put it out on the street,” King reiterated.
“I believed you the first time you said it,” El replied. “And I’d know if you lied.” El’s sense of smell could detect a sense of change in people when they weren’t honest. It was a blessing and curse.
King chuckled and moved to the balcony window. The cold winds of Chicago whipped about, but El felt the man wasn’t looking out the window.
“Blaque is pissed but not just at you, El. She’s pissed at me because I chose someone else over her, and she’s off-leash. It’s why she killed Queen. She wanted to hurt me badly, and killing my twin sister did.”
“Queen was her sister as well.”
King snorted as if that was a joke. “Only when she wanted something from Queen. Little sister sees only what she wants to see, and unfortunately, once she’s laser-focused on something or someone, there’s not much anyone else can do but get out of her way.”
El said bitterly, “None of that is my fault, and it’s not my job to get your little sister under control.”
“And you’re right, but she’s on a mission.”
“I was in New York, King. I know this. Why are you addressing this with me?”
King turned to El and said, “This time, she won’t stop unless we stop her.”
“This is not my fight,” El insisted. “After the shit she pulled here and New York, I want nothing to do with her.”
“The ‘We’ is not you or me,” King said with finality, and he looked far from pleased. “I need to get into Detroit. And since you’re so willing to sacrifice whatever for that woman, I figured you could give me someplace to set up a business.”
El chuckled in incredulity. “I know you haven’t forgotten your cousin, Lethal, is never going to let you step foot in that city without a bullet to your brain.”
“Not if he doesn’t know I’m there. I need office space, a think tank area, a training building, and a manufacturing building connected with the underground tunnels already built in the city.”
“How would I know that?”
“Your partner would know the majority of them. His older brother Dag gave me a map, but it’s without a legend, which I’m trying to get. I’ve figured out the majority of the areas where I need places, but I need-“
“No!” El cut him off. “I’m not getting in that war with your family, King. And if Blaque knows I’m helping you-“
“You get me what I want, and I’ll make sure my little sister stays away from you.”
“You just said you can’t control her.”
“But I have an army that she trained. They’ll protect you and your woman behind the scenes while you do this for me. My army will be the distraction my little sister needs until I devise a plan to stop what she’s trying to do and keep her away from you and your mission: to help me without anyone knowing, including your partner.”
El ignored his gut telling him not to accept this offer, but he was too curious about King’s plan. “What’s in it for me?”
“I won’t abduct your new fascination and hide her away forever – and you know I could, be damn your sharpshooting skills. I know you won’t kill me as long as you don’t know where she is.”
Jealousy enraged every vein in his body, and El almost trembled in anger when he spoke. “You’ll keep your filthy hands away from her.”
“I don’t have to touch her to take her, El, and you know this.” King turned his back on El as if looking outside was more entertaining, not the least bit worried that El held the gun. “I don’t want to make an enemy out of you, El, and you know that. Give me what I want, and when this is all over, not only will you have a sizeable amount your children will live nicely off, but I will make it worth your while once I finish setting up.”
El grimaced and looked at the bedroom door.
“She’s worth it,” King said, not bothering to turn around but knowing what El was doing. “You don’t have to answer me now, El. Go to her. Comfort her, and before you leave Chicago, let me know.”
Walking to the bedroom door, taking his eyes off King Heart for only a moment, El stopped before he went through the door and looked back at the window. King was gone. Looking around the room, there was no trace of the man, but El wouldn’t look for him.
Like his sister, King could move through walls and appear in secure and locked places.
A map was on the console table by the couch. El picked it up to see several routes noted all over Detroit. He knew his work was cut out for him in finding property along these routes, but it was a challenge only he could take, which was why King needed him.
“He’s gone,” Iris asked, standing at the bedroom doorway.
“What did you hear?”
“This and that?” she admitted with disappointment. “These doors are thick enough to cover a lot.”
“It was probably when he faced away a lot of time because he knew you were listening.” El took her in, loving her bed-tossed beauty, desiring to do it again.
“Are you going to help him, El?” she questioned, walking to him and looking at the map.
El saw the potential of helping King, but the man left an opening. King knew what El was up to and could easily reach Iris and tell her his plan before six weeks from now.
Time. El needed all the time in the world, and King would give him that IF El helped him out.
