AUTHOR’S NOTE: ooh, look at me! Posting two days in a row. Yeah, I need to up my game, but after I got something off my chest after my last read, I was kind of free and clear about writing more.

See my Instagram post:

So yes, I refer to a windfall brother, Xavier, in this one.

And I can’t remember all the books King Heart appears in but if you know one, add to the comments.

Enjoy; your author, Sylvia Hubbard

The water was past cold when El lifted her from there and showered with her again. She didn’t mind. The cleaner she was, the more El was this normal, lustful man who wanted to indulge in her mind, body, and soul.

Iris could enjoy every minute of this man for the rest of her life, but she would never voice that to him, knowing he could lose interest in her at any moment. Her life had been an unhappy mess. El was right; he would be a hard man to walk away from, but she knew she would have to leave and never see him again when it was time.

Yet, Iris wouldn’t let her sad thoughts ruin this night. Iris was determined to enjoy this man as long as she could.

And when they arrived at his bedroom, as he placed her on the bed, he immediately dove between her legs, sending her on another round of pleasure. Only when Iris was screaming hoarsely, trembling intensely, did El’s hunger on her body suffice, and he moved up to kiss her deeply, and she moaned, tasting them on his lips, loving how his tongue wrapped around hers.

As sleep pulled her into the darkness, the kiss was a topping on a delicious night Iris knew she would never forget.

***

An immediate sense of danger enveloped her, gripping her in fear to the point she could barely breathe. Since she was lying on her side, Iris slowly opened her eyes to a semi-darkened room. Her breasts were exposed, and she faintly remembered El turning over in her sleep, pulling the sheets away, and nuzzling into her chest. Soon after, the familiar pleasant tug on her nipples as he suckled lulled her back into sleep with a smile on her lips.

Trembling down in her soul of pleasure was abruptly changed over to a cold chill over the front of her body, awakening her. The pillow beside her was empty, and she didn’t see El, but she could sense someone was in the room with her.

Everything inside of her told her not to move and barely breathe, and then…

The room became winter cold, as if someone had opened a door or window.

The goosebumps on her skin forced her to roll on her side, and she gasped.

“You don’t snore,” a calm, deep voice said as if he were imparting that information to her. Yet, each word shot icicles through her ears, and cruel fear ran through her veins. Her gut brimmed over with danger for this man, yet she couldn’t move a muscle, too scared to try to escape the room.

Quickly, Iris pulled the covers over her breasts, taking in the tall, light caramel brown man in a white turtle neck and white trousers standing at the corner of the bed where he could see her and the door of the bedroom. He was lean but muscular, his soft medium brown hair was neatly cut, but the waves were well-defined, and he stood with his hands behind his back, looking down at her. Iris couldn’t see the details of his face, but from the light coming from the bedroom’s open door, she knew he was looking at her.

“W-Who are you?” she asked. “Where’s El?”

“Who cares when it’s you I’ve come for, Iris Folsom.”

Another brutal chill swept over her to the bone. “Who are you?” she demanded in a whisper.

Slowly, the man knelt to bed level, and the light seemed to shift in her favor so she could see the most startling, handsome man. As beautiful as he was, she knew she was looking into the face of pure evil. There was a wicked curl to his soft lips to indicate he was smiling, but the humor didn’t reach his black eyes. His hands moved to the front of him, and she gasped, seeing a long, sharp five-inch ridge blade and, in the other hand, a massive golden glock. “King. King Heart.”

Albeit neither weapon was pointed at her, Iris was very afraid for her life.

“Get the fuck away from her,” El said suddenly, leaning on the door frame, but his voice was deceptively calm. He was wearing only pajama bottoms and holding his gun downwards in a non-threatening manner.

King never took his eyes off her, but she felt the man was very aware of El and what he held.

“I thought you left,” King said.

“You thought wrong.”

“My little sister has taught you too well, but this woman is coming with me, E.”

El didn’t break eye contact at King and kept his gun lowered. “Not well enough; I should have heard you as soon as you entered and killed you at the door.”

“Well, I’m sure your discovery in the bathroom was a nice distraction, E.”

The nickname and the way they spoke to each other meant this man knew who El was, but he didn’t care. King Heart had come for her, and she swore she’d die if she had to go with her.

El reached his other hand in his pocket and pulled out a thick envelope, which he tossed on the edge of the bed. “That’s the money her husband and her father owe you, plus an extra hundred thousand as interest. Take it and leave, King.”

“I don’t want your money. I sent that message before, E. I want her.”

She and El responded simultaneously, “Why?!”

King only closed his eyes briefly and took a long, deep breath. And then he looked at the doorway with that smirk on his lips. “You’ve been a bad boy, El.” He took another deep breath. “A naughty boy.”

“Why do you want her? You have a million women under your control, King.”

The mysterious man shrugged. “Not a million – enough, but I’m not taking her for anything other than leverage.” He slowly stood up and stepped toward the head of the bed.

El pointed the gun at him, and King stopped. “DON’T you touch her.”

King tilted his head up and sniffed the air like he was trying to pull the whole room into his nose, and then he looked down at her with a knowing smile. “She’s so damn natural. I see why you love her essence.” He smelled the air again. “Damn! The lemongrass and… lavender only accentuate the purity.”

Iris became irritated as the man spoke as if she weren’t there, but she didn’t voice her offense.

King continued speaking to El but looked at her. “You must be addicted to her by now. And I see why little sister is big mad. Blaque can’t take that away unless she kills her.”

“And that’s what you came to do?” Iris asked bravely.

Getting his whole attention was her fault. King’s visual caress seemed to suck the life, happiness, and joy out of her in one look. “I need you for leverage, Iris. And I don’t care what Blaque wants. I need you to get the beautiful drug your father is creating in my hands.”

“No!” El said, his arm not wavering, keeping the gun pointed at King.

King raised his gun to point at her face. “It doesn’t matter what you want. I came here personally, and that means I’m not leaving without what I want, E. By the time you shoot me, a bullet will be in the back wall behind her head.”

“But you’ll be dead, which will appease more than just me. Your cousin, Lethal, will only be upset because he didn’t kill you himself, but he’ll be ecstatic you’re gone, and you can play in hell with your twin sister, Queen.”

Cooking his neck as if he had a bad taste in his mouth, King sucked on his teeth. “You don’t want Iris dead, and I don’t want to make Lethal happy in any way until I get my Paradise, but I need that drug in my possession, and Iris is the only way I can get it from her father.”

“Iris is mine, and I won’t let you put your evil hands on her. Anything you touch turns to shit, and you know it, King.”

The man shifted his body as if El had dealt a physical blow to his side. “True, but you can offer nothing to make me change my mind. I know you hate anything of yours being touched, E, and I respect you because you put the one thing in my little sister that no other person could. I owe you for that, but this is a necessary evil.”

“You fucking came because of that damn recipe,” El said, annoyed.

“It’s worth more money you could offer me, even with your little incognito partner’s wealth.” There was disgust in his voice, but he put the gun down from being aimed at Iris. “Is that Windfall bastard trying to keep it for himself?”

“X doesn’t know about the formula or that she’s involved in this shit. That’s between Iris and me. Her sister kept her father’s notes. I scanned through them and saw Violet had written down the exact ingredients, but I won’t let you put that shit out on the street.”

“That’s not why I want it, E. If I don’t get my hands on it soon, the government will get it, and you know what they do to valuable things and people.”

El narrowed only one eye and put his gun down.

Iris trembled, feeling El was going to give her to this monster.

“I’ll give the formula to your think tank in a few months. Iris needs time to go through the books her sister has.”

“How can I trust you, E?” King asked, gripping his knife as if he needed very desperately to use it.

“You can’t, but I never write a check with my mouth that my ass can’t cash, and you know this.”

Again, King knelt at the bed level, intently looking down at her body as if trying to judge her weight and if he could carry her out of there without getting shot by El. He sniffed the air again.

“She’s a milker. I bet she tastes as sweet as her scent, doesn’t she, El.”

El didn’t answer, but King knew this answer already as his lips moved into a maniacal smile.

“Does she know-“

He cut King off. “Why don’t you come out here so the big boys can talk, King, while Iris gets descent?”

King stood up, tucking the gun behind him, and deeply breathed. “Iris, you are a rare jewel, and this man knows it. Don’t you ever think you are not in control of him?” He stepped away from the bed, flipping the knife in a side white leather slot on his pants that she had not seen was there. He gave her a wink before he followed El out of the room.

El gave her a safe nod before he closed the door to the bedroom.

Only after the door was closed did Iris relax and take deep breaths, but I’m not sure she had started to hold it. Wrapping the covers around her, she quickly went to the bedroom door to press her ear against trying to listen to their conversation.
