Author’s Note: yeah this is a fat one and that means the next update will be on Friday. I was going to break this into two pieces / I haven’t done that in a while but I was like, oh let’s spoil them.

Like I said, the Essence is in Essence’s Divinity. I’m going to push her book in Amazon and add part 4 to the gumroad store for people who want to buy the book directly from me.

Don’t forget to comment and lmk what you’re thinking. That helps and I can post more.

Your Author, Sylvia Hubbard

Once she was done with her shower, Iris took a nap for a couple of hours and joined her family in the greenhouse. Instead of the troubling dreams, she thought she would immerse in, her mind replayed the night with El over and over and how sweet and delicious he had her feeling.

Shedding the worst of the worst treatment she had received from Dwayne was easy when El’s tender touches were so powerful. She could see why a woman would become obsessed with him. El’s slow seduction was like a drug where one would want more and more. And she did crave to know if they would do more. Was he thinking about her as hard as she was thinking about him? she wondered after her nap.

There were no messages or calls on her phone from El to indicate he was, but she forced herself not to get upset about that. Enjoy it while it lasts, Iris reminded herself. Don’t get too caught up with this. If things happened, they happened.

Clem was still energetic, so she suggested a cleanout in the seven-by-seven shed, which had started off being the entrance to the underground space. Still, sometimes Aunt Rose would take in women who needed a place to lay low, and it was transformed into a small bedroom. As her aunt grew older and more reclusive, Iris would use this as a getaway from her father or Dwayne. Pete had built a shower bath in the corner with a waterproof sliding door that recirculated rainwater and added solar panels on the top of the shed for a heated one-person shower.

Clem finally hit exhaustion. Aunt Rose ran his bath while Iris cooked dinner, feeling good after immersing herself in her herbal business and telling her nephew how to clean up properly. A large order for medicinal salves and natural scents had come from an Essence Folsom. Having the same name was odd, but Iris would fulfill the order and wondered if she could deliver it personally to meet her.

“Do you know of anyone named Essence Folsom?” Iris asked at the dinner table.

Aunt Rose stiffened. “There were cousins on your father’s side. She was a small child, and she had a sister. Why?”

“She placed a large order for some unique scents and salves. I thought having the same name as my father’s was odd. And I was thinking of taking it to her personally.”

“I wasn’t close to any part of that family and don’t particularly like visitors. I wouldn’t invest too much into it. Anyone related to your father always felt they were selfish and cruel.”

Iris would fulfill the order and let her aunt send it out as usual. Most of the time, Aunt Rose was right about people. Deciding to change the subject, she asked Clem, “Was there anything out of your room at the old place you want Pete to get? I’m considering sending him to collect some of your things.”

Clem looked excited. “Can I go?”

Caressing his nape, Iris said, “No, love, it’s not safe anymore to go there. I might go with him, so I was hoping you could give me a detailed list of where they can find those items. Otherwise, we’ll never see them again, so this is very important.”

“But I got secret spaces, Aunt Iris. I didn’t want Daddy to know about my spaces because he would throw my Momma’s things out. What if I don’t want Uncle Pete to see my secret spots?”

“What could you have in your secret spots?” Aunt Rose questioned. “You’re too little to have secrets, Clem.”

“But my Momma did. And I wanted to keep her secrets. She told me she had a lot of secrets and showed me where they were. When she died, I took them and put them in my secret spaces.”

Iris looked at her aunt, who was looking at her.

“What were these secrets, Clem?” Iris pressed.

Clem shrugged. “I don’t know, but I heard Grandpa tell Daddy to stop holding on to all Momma’s stuff like a sick puppy and throw all the stuff away. Then Grandpa asked Daddy if he had found Momma’s books, and Daddy said no, but that’s because I had taken all of Momma’s books. I tried to read them, but there were a lot of big words, and some of them I couldn’t read at all cause she wrote in a different language.”

“Wrote?” Aunt Rose questioned.

“Yeah, she wrote in a lot of them,” Clem answered.

Could her nephew have the journals and diaries Iris needed?!

“How about you tell me exactly where all your hidden places are, and I’ll ensure Uncle Pete gets all your stuff? I promise.”

Clem looked at Aunt Rose, who nodded reassuringly. “Okay, I’ll write it all down,” he promised.

After dinner, Iris devoted the rest of the evening to her nephew. Once she put him down to sleep, she returned to the seven-by-seven shed to adore that Clem had done an outstanding job – even going so far as to change the sheets on the futon and mop the floors with pine oil.

Iris had brought out peppermint candles to decorate the place and added some lavender and cinnamon potpourri packets to keep spiders and other bugs from residence in the shed. Just as she was finishing up, her phone rang.

Looking at the name on the screen, her heart palpitated. El was calling late at night, and Iris knew it wasn’t for business.

“Hi,” she said coolly.

“You left without saying goodbye this morning,” he said irritably.

“I sent a text message. And you probably had so much personal business you didn’t think that much about it.”

“I thought a lot about it, Iris. I’ve thought a lot about you today.”

That admission stirred her, and she explained, “I left abruptly because I was upset.”

“About what?”

He knew most of the truth, and she felt he might as well know all of it. “I remembered everything. El and I… I had to leave. Did you know everything before I told you, El?”

“My powers of deduction are a blessing and curse,” he responded. “What happened when you got home?”

She answered, “When I got home, Aunt Rose helped me put the rest of the pieces together with the secrets she had been hiding.”

“How are you now?”

His concern was touching. “I’m handling things. Spending the day with Clem helped with the distraction.”

“I would have helped if you had called.”

Was he jealous of Clem? That was a silly thought, she told herself. A grown man was envious of a child she already had in her life. Yes, that would be silly.

“You can still help,” she teased, knowing he would never take her up on the offer. “I just cleaned up the shed, and I was thinking of trying out the new futon and bed we added to spruce up the place-“

He cut her off. “I can be there in thirty.”

Iris had not expected that, but now that he had offered, she desired to see him. “See you then,” she said.

The line disconnected, and she looked at the phone as if she had dreamed the entire thing. He was coming?! This man was dropping everything and coming to her just because she teased an offer. Had their night before meant a lot more to him? Or was this the kind of man he was when he desired something, and once he was tired of it, she wouldn’t get this attention anymore?

She told herself to enjoy it while it lasted, skipping into the house to freshen up and change into a comfortable knee-length maxi dress with flared shoulders. It was still chilly at night in Detroit, but she could handle the weather. It was the man she was worried about. Pinning her two-strand twist braids in a roll, she only slipped on some flip-flops as she went out the back of the house.

El remembered how to come up the drive and enter the gate, and then she met him in the back courtyard, just like their first night, except it wasn’t raining. The man was prompt, to say the least, as she walked to his car while he exited. Her feet paused right out of arms’ reach of him.

Iris was sure this man only had dress shirts and pants in his wardrobe because he wore a light evergreen shirt with gray business slacks and matching shoes. At least he hadn’t put on a full three-piece suit, but she couldn’t believe this was what he relaxed in on a Saturday night.

What could she say to let him know she wanted to continue what she couldn’t do on the night they first met? She wondered, looking bravely into his intense eyes with a glare to sear her soul. Without the restrictions of Dwayne between them, she could let Iris out of the box, but El was so intimidating…

“Lemongrass,” he said out of nowhere. “You smell like lemongrass.”

Iris was shocked he could smell her from that distance and knew precisely what soap she had used to freshen herself up. “You are correct. It was one of my mother’s favorite scents.”

“How long will I have you all to myself?” he questioned impatiently.

“Clem’s asleep-“

El stepped to her with quickness and pulled her body against his, pressing his lips perfectly on top of hers.

His mouth was warm as his tongue moved between her lips, wrapping around hers. She was able to wrap her arms around his neck and tilt her face to deepen the kiss. Feeling his moan down her throat made the back of her thighs shudder.

Iris loved the effect she had on him. Breaking the kiss by stepping away, she put a finger to his lips to stop his protest and then took his hand to lead him to the shed. As soon as they stepped in, the lavender and cinnamon hit perfectly, and she pointed down to his feet as she took off her flip-flops. While he removed his shoes, she lit the candles and locked the shed’s door.

He looked around the small space skeptically, and she knew he was checking things out. “You did this for us?”

“This was a cleaning distraction for the day, and Clem helped me out. I’d bought everything new but just set it up here today. From last night with you, then realizing what happened to me in the past shook me up, but I’m a little better. There’s still some outside repairs to do like painting-“

He cut her off. “You shouldn’t have left this morning. I wanted to spend the day with you. It takes me a long time to get comfortable with a woman, Iris.”

“Is that the first time you admitted that out loud?” she asked, seeing a new rawness in his face as if he were conflicted about telling her his revelation.

Nodding, El moved very close to her and leaned down into her neck, right behind her ears, to inhale her. His hands rested on her hips as his long fingers spread to her rear. The tip of his nose trailed up to her ear, over her cheek, and then he pressed a soft kiss on her lips.

“I could smell you all day and all night, Iris,” he whispered this confession. “Lay down. Let’s finish what we started.”

She moved two steps to feel the futon on the back of her knees. She reached under the center before sitting on the edge and releasing the bed function.

El lightly chuckled, but that look of satisfaction was all over his face. He removed his shirt and placed it on a hook on the wall, then removed his pants to do the same. Those thick muscles on his chest and shoulders bulged, and she wondered how heavy the gun he had to hold and how long he could hold it.

Yet, in her mind, she was thinking about being hoisted on his shoulders with his face-

“Iris, watch me,” he whispered as he knelt before her, pulling her back to reality. “I need to see your face. I love seeing how you love what I do to your body.”

She understood because she liked knowing what she did to him.

El’s hands pushed up her dress and raised it over her head to remove it. A shuddering growl low in his voice made her tremble as he discovered she had nothing on underneath the dress.

This time, she was naked and loved how his eyes caressed her entire body before his hands started to touch her, followed by his mouth. Down her neck to her collarbone, Iris couldn’t breathe in enough air, feeling his tongue tease her skin as he inhaled and tasted her. Of course, once he got to her nipples, he spent an excessive amount of time there. The tugged to the center of her core as he latched on each breast, sending inner massages to the sides of her clit.

Her thighs gripped his waist as he switched breasts. At the same time, his hand shot down between them to give a loving squeeze to her entire womanhood before his fingers circled her wet labia on the outside and then the inside before embedding two fingers deep into her.

Trying to keep her eyes open to watch him while her whole body trembled with desire was becoming too difficult. The more she watched, the harder the trembles came. This was torturous, but she loved every beautiful touch he gave.

She was sure she was going to gnaw her lips off, trying to stifle her moan, feeling moisture running over her perineum to her dark rear expenditure like warm syrup. El suddenly pulled away, pulling his fingers from her body and up to his nose to smell her. Gawd, she loved how he closed his eyes, taking several deep breaths of his fingers with her love juice all over, and then he stuffed both fingers in his mouth and moaned.

Gasping in delight, Iris pulled his face to hers and kissed him, tasting herself still on the rim of his lips.

“Fuck!” he hissed. “I want to do so many nasty things with you, Iris.”

“Please!” she begged between lascivious kisses. “Please do them, El.”

His hand moved around her neck, and she could feel those thick, long fingers pressing on her exterior juggler veins. “I need to know you will be mine and mine only from this day forth.”

Gawd! As wanton as she felt, Iris would strip her skin and offer it on a silver platter for him if he asked. “Yes, El! Anything. You can have anything from me! Please!”

That was all he needed as he began a deluge of sloppy kisses all down her body, ascending between her thighs.
