Staying literary motivated during the winter is difficult for all especially literary folks who think this is a solitary endeavor
Tips on how to stay motivated through the cold lonely months from Katie Steckly, content creator and influencer
Build relationships – Winter can make your feel isolated and sometimes lonely, which can pull you away from the tasks needed to make movement in your book business. Which is why you need to build relationships. We talk a lot about the importance of building a network of writers and authors, lean on them during this time (they probably need it too)! Think about collaborations, promoting other work, helping someone on their project.
Create a healthy routine – Routines are such an important part of creating balance in your life. Before even entering the winter months, it’s a good idea to give yourself some set routines, that make you feel warm and cozy, so it will keep you on track throughout those days where you have zero natural motivation. Always use your planner to write them down and reward yourself on accomplishments.
Stay active – Find ways to stay active, even when you don’t feel like it. Keep that body moving. I know the first thing I want to do when waking up in the winter is curl back in bed where it feels cozy and warm, but instead – relocate to the next room and have your workout clothing ready to go and warm up your body by doing a little winter yoga or stretching. This is something you could add to your routine we just talked about. Also try doing your writing or reading in a different part of the house.
